I have a communicative approach to teaching and like to focus on students' individual needs. In an initial meeting, I like to get to know my students and understand their reason for improving their English skills. It is important for me to assess the student's strengths and weaknesses which helps form a basis for future lessons. After an initial assessment, I will discuss with the student what areas I think we should focus on and come to an agreement on what classes will consist of.
Classes typically focus on a particular receptive skill or language point, consisting of a variety of tasks and exercises to improve accuracy and use of the target language. I will then finish off the lesson with a speaking or writing task for fluency. The topics covered in class are relevant and interesting for students that aim to replicate an authentic learning environment. It is important for students to be able to use what they have learnt in class in the outside world which is why this is emulated as much as possible in lessons. Tasks and activities are learner-focused and can vary depending on the level and abilities of students.
I have experience teaching adults with different levels of English from lower intermediate to upper intermediate. I have taught receptive skills and language points such as vocabulary and grammar. I also have experience working with young children, adapting my lessons as necessary.
