My lessons are fundamentally casual: a relaxed and comfortable learning environment is vital to any sort of effective learning. The vast majority of my lessons follow the format of a simple conversation, with questions and discussions providing a useful platform through which my students can gain confidence in their music ability. I'm a firm believer that a bit of patience and persistence is all you need to get to where you want to be, and music is no exception.
My musical specialist area is jazz, where I've spent many years soaking up the international jazz culture and building my understanding of the often intimidating and complex harmonies and rhythms of the genre. I'm dedicated to proving that jazz isn't the unobtainable nonsense many see it to be! Alongside this, my experience with classical and folk music has provided me with clear understanding of the fascinating wider musical environment we find ourselves immersed in everyday - I enjoy Chopin just as much as I do Monk!
The contents of lessons is flexible to my students' needs - do you have a particular goal in mind? We can work towards it. Are you a complete beginner and want to start from scratch? Sure thing! I value all of my students' time and opinions, so if a lesson format isn't working for you, we can discuss alternative approaches to our goal. Everybody learns differently, and recognising that is at the core of my teaching style.
Music is a joy nobody should have to miss out on, and understanding it on a deeper level is a choice you'll never regret.
