With a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies as well as a Masters in Translation, I have the language skills necessary to teach Spanish to a high level.
Having studied Spanish at a Scottish high school, and having received two awards (top Higher and Advanced Higher grades), I am familiar with the SQA system, but am also able to work with students studying in the AQA system.
I currently work with a student 4 days a week; taking on the role of teacher, I am responsible for teaching the entire Higher course to prepare the student for the final exams.
Teaching involves preliminary discussion with the student about their goals for the year, which we break down into weekly and/or monthly sub-goals to keep them motivated. I help students develop reading, writing, listening, and talking skills through using textbooks and past papers. Aside from this, we study grammar (verb tenses, word order, spelling etc.) to help the student develop a natural flow. I also prepare the student for final assessments by walking them through the exams, explaining how to respond to exam tasks, and how to achieve top marks. These activities are done by using shared documents, allowing both myself and the student to work together interactively.
Depending on what the student feels comfortable with, I carry out lessons fully in English, fully in Spanish, or using a mix of both languages.
