I create brief summary presentations to cover the topics students need help with, then follow up with any questions they may have, making sure they understand the material. Engagement with students is of high importance to me, so I like my lessons to be more of a conversation between the student and myself than anything like a lecture. In my sixth year of high school, I volunteered to tutor pupils in s1/s2 in mathematics for an hour a week, and I found that building up a good relationship with specific students really aided their learning as they no longer felt embarrassed asking me as many questions as they needed until they understood the topic. I am aware that every person’s mind works differently, and I am more than capable of adapting my teaching methods until the student and I together find a way of explaining and understanding maths that works for them.
