One of the major front lines I'd be using is the retrieval practice method which is at the beginning of every session, a recall of the previous session would be done. This helps with retaining long-term memory in most scenarios. Personally, it was a game changer when I was first introduced to it, I didn't fancy it too much, but when I actually participated in the activity, I found it extremely beneficial. It gives a reason to task the brain for more information and not just rely on notes straight away or the internet.
I first work on the glaring weaknesses that pose as a hindrance and carry on from there.
Communication is also key as there needs to be an understanding of what effective communication brings. This is listening and giving feedback in return.
But definitely, learning varies from person to person. a standing ground would be formulated and worked with.
