I want my lessons to be a fun and inviting environment for students, usually my lessons start by me asking students what they want to start with or what they struggle with the most. To get an idea of how well they know the topic I will start by giving a few starter questions and from those questions I will be able to see if exam skills or content is where the student struggles with. If content is the problem I will thoroughly go through it with the student and ask quiz questions to solidify understanding. If exam practice is the issue then I will complete worked examples with the student so they gain an understanding of how to do tackle the question and then give them some to try. I will set short homework tasks just to see how well they understand the task and start the next session going through this again. Occasionally there will be ‘tests’ just as a way to see how the student is getting on with the work.
