Lessons begin with a brief catch up with the student. This includes how they are, what they did on the weekend and even their favourite hobbies. I think this is the best way to build an emotional connection with students. Lessons commence with a review of things that went well/can be improved. Based on the students ability the lessons will be catered towards their needs with a mix of reading, writing and strong emphasis on constructing sentences. Depending on how fluent the student is the lessons will vary. For example a student who has no or little understanding of English I will cater the lessons as if I am teaching a foreign language. This includes small tasks for the students to complete such as ‘filling in the missing word’. This will help them understand what words are needed to complete a sentence. However, other students who have experience will befit from a more challenging task such as reading sections of a chapter and making sense of the dialogue.
