I like to keep my lessons light and entertaining as I'm aware that learning new topics and getting over certain mindset hurdles on capability can be a challenge.
I have experience is communicating and looking after children and so I'm understanding of things like limited attention span and being quick to irritation. Qualification wise I am in year 12 and I have a GCSE in religious studies, i recieved a 9 which translates to an A** and a GCSE in both English literature and English language getting an 8 in both of them which translates to an A*. There are certain techniques that my teachers used that empowered me to be able to achieve such grades and going on to study two essay based subjects at alevel (philosophy and politics) meant it not only strengthened my foundation in these subjects but it also increased my passion for teaching subjects as one of my objectives is to make sure I'm not just another person saying big words but instead I'm someone that could change a negative perspective on the subject and change fixed mindsets regarding ability in the subject.
I will make my lessons bitsize by breaking them up with activities to test the students recall and giving them advice on what to do even outside of the lessons amongst other things like quizzing and trying to incorporate everyday scenarios into concepts to increase understanding. For example tongue twisters can be a fun way of explaining alliteration in English or talking to the student about their belief on what they think happens after death and what their opinion of different beliefs is.
My lessons won't be too long as I don't believe hours and hours of academics is actually helpful in the long run but my content will consist of things such as online videos, for my younger students games and even catchy songs that may help them remember concepts and for my older students simple tricks for essay writing.
