I like to first get a grasp of what the student knows and what they are confident at, i then like to see how they would approach a problem, both ones they have practiced before and ones that are new. this gives me a grasp of where the student is at in their learning goals before structuring the lesson around their needs. i like a "university lecture" style teaching method where i discuss the theory and importance of the subject before giving some examples and doing one or two step by step examples before giving the student room to digest the content and apply the content. I like to allow the student to freely ask any and all questions no matter if im talking about theory or in the middle of a step by step explanation, as questions are often a key way in giving me insight into both how well my teaching is sinking in for the student, and if i have gone to fast/to slow/etc.
