As a student myself I know that the key to learning is engaging and interesting lessons. I strive to find a balance between lessons which are both interactive and informative. I incorporate fun exercises and activities within my lessons to ensure students are continuing to pay attention and engage in the lesson. I believe that lessons should not be dominated by the teacher and although the format I use is a teaching section and then an activity I encourage students to ask questions and participate throughout. I use PowerPoint presentations to present the information in a digestible and accessible manner with lots of picture and colour. I share the slides with my students as well as sharing my screen. I use online interactive whiteboard tool classroom screen so both myself and the student can collaboratively learn and I can monitor their progress.
I have a myriad of experience in a teaching and leadership capacity. I volunteered at my local church Sunday school and organised games and crafts for children under 5. This developed my organisation and leadership skills, particularly in dealing appropriately with the variety of additional needs for some children. I also coached my local waterpolo team for one year, this included providing presentations on certain techniques, injuries and new skills and leading land training sessions. I am also involved in the social mobility student mentorship scheme at my university where I advise younger students on the technicalities of studying abroad.
