GCSE Maths Tutor (Year 7 - Year 11)
Hi, I'm Ethan, a 20-year-old student currently studying for a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Newcastle University. I achieved an A* in Maths at A-Level and am excited to pursue a career in mathematics in the future. Alongside my studies, I’m working on developing a Maths A-Level resource website (you can check it out here: which I hope will help students navigate the challenges of A-Level maths. I’m passionate about teaching and sharing my love for the subject, and I’m always keen to help others learn and succeed!
As a tutor, I am committed to offering a tailored approach that suits the individual learning styles and needs of my students. I tutor GCSE Maths for students in Year 7 through Year 11, and I am happy to work with a variety of exam boards.
Lesson Structure and Format:
- Flexible Learning: I can adapt to different resources such as workbooks, online platforms, or exam board-specific materials. The flexibility to switch between these resources ensures that each student gets the most out of their lessons, whether it’s through structured work or interactive exercises.
- Planned and Structured Sessions: I take time before each session to plan thoroughly and ensure that each lesson follows a clear structure. I believe in progressing over time and prefer to work through topics systematically. This helps in building a strong foundation and progressing towards exam success.
- Review and Progression: After each lesson, I will review the student’s work and provide feedback. This helps track progress and reinforces learning. I am always willing to spend extra time on lessons if needed, as I believe in offering a comprehensive tutoring experience that goes beyond just the hourly session.
Teaching Methods:
- Interactive Tools: I use a mix of digital tools like Microsoft PowerPoint, websites, and other online resources to make the sessions engaging. Whether it’s teaching through a visual presentation or guiding the student through an interactive website, my goal is to make each session as productive as possible.
- Online Learning: I conduct all my sessions via Microsoft Teams, where I am visible with my face and microphone on, though the student can choose to have theirs off if preferred. However, I find that having a real-time, face-to-face interaction — even online — significantly enhances the learning experience.
- Personalised Approach: Each student is different, and I aim to tailor my lessons accordingly. Whether it’s working through specific areas of difficulty, preparing for mock exams, or revising key topics, I make sure every lesson is aligned with the student’s goals. I encourage open communication and am always happy to adjust based on feedback.
