A hands on approach is what I believe to be the best way of learning. For a student it is very easy to get bored, especially when the topic may be something that is not interesting.
As a tutor I would engage a student by asking questions to understand what they know of the topic as well as use current media to apply the understanding of this.
Writing skills are key, therefore students will be asked to do at least one PEEL paragraph per session. This will be marked alongside them so they are able to see what qualities are important when writing. This will help them in doing their GCSEs which will then greatly help with A-Levels.
Having a good standard of lesson materials is important for the lessons to go smoothly. In this regard I will create lesson plans customised for each student and the topic.
If a student struggles with a particular topic or area it will be the main priority.
I have no official experience of teaching or tutoring but I was often head of study groups throughout my own education.
In a group session it is important to prioritise group work as this will aid students in building their social skills for further education and even jobs later in life.
As mentioned earlier, conversation is key, rather than telling students what the topic is about it is better to engage them by discussing what they think and how they view it. This will then be directed to writing.
