My tutoring typically starts with a small test so I can understand where a students strengths and weaknesses are. The lessons I teach are always tailored to the need of the student which means rest breaks and unwind time are included when necessary. Lessons usually start with a warm up activity before we look at a question or problem. I teach a few different methods for each question to allow the student to pick which one suits them most. I then have them to practice it with me a few times before giving an independent challenge. I also like to use games as part of learning with flash cards and memory challenges to help retain knowledge at a quick recall pace. After a unit or two of learning I usually do a consolidation lesson to ensure the knowledge is retained so we can move on. I aim to have a full circle approach within my learning so alongside the topic we are studying I ensure that handwriting and presentation standards are met. I have a learner centred approach to my teaching alongside a participative environment. Students should feel like they can contribute readily to my lessons as their ideas are welcome and valid always. I am currently a primary school teacher and my experience within a school environment is over 3 years. It is primarily with SATS based year groups having taught in year 6 for most of my career but I am flexible and enjoy teaching other year groups too.
