My overall approach starts with you - I believe education should be interesting, engaging, and inspiring, which means it should be tailored to exactly what you need, and in a way that you find fun. When I take on a new student, we will first have a conversation about your goals, how you have learned best in the past, and what you find most difficult, to make sure the lessons are perfect for you....
My overall approach starts with you - I believe education should be interesting, engaging, and inspiring, which means it should be tailored to exactly what you need, and in a way that you find fun. When I take on a new student, we will first have a conversation about your goals, how you have learned best in the past, and what you find most difficult, to make sure the lessons are perfect for you.
For GCSE and A level students, we can design a series of topics for our lessons together, based on the parts of the curriculum where you need to improve the most. We will talk about why what your teacher is doing isn’t working for you, and agree upon an approach which works better for you instead. This approach can adapt over time, and I will consistently ask you for feedback on which activities help you learn the best.
For ESL students, my lessons are very flexible, but an example of my typical lesson would involve a series of interactive activities focused on a topic you need. For example, match-up activities or scenario based games in which you would apply your knowledge to figure out missing words or phrases. With past ESL students, we have discussed articles and topics to develop conversational skills. I adapt my approach to teaching ESL based upon why you are learning English, whether this is for academics, life, work, or for passing exams.
If students are able to, I set engaging homework tasks tailored to their interests, which we can then review and discuss at the beginning or end of our next lesson.
For university students, or any students submitting coursework essays, I can provide mentoring surrounding academic writing skills, in which I will guide you to develop your writing skills and understand how to follow academic conventions. This includes skills such as critical thinking + reading, referencing, paraphrasing, structuring, research, and literature gathering.
I have supported university students with academic writing in the following academic areas:
- Management (e.g. Business administration, Marketing, HR, Economics)
- Sciences (e.g. Medicine, Ecology, Orthoptics, Computer science, Physics)
- Arts, humanities and social sciences (e.g. English literature, Fine art, Creative writing, Linguistics and English language, Psychology)
I can also provide support with CV and cover letter writing, in which I have experience for job seekers in a variety of fields.
I teach lessons online, using any of the common video conferencing softwares.
