I have a PGCE with a specialism in maths so LOVE teaching maths. My philosophy is that anyone can excel in maths, they just need the right guidance.
I tailor my lessons using growth mindset. This means that mistakes are welcomed as mistakes are the way we move forward. From my degree in Psychology and Neuroscience, you will see that when a mistake is made and then corrected, the brain changes and new connections are make. However, when someone keeps getting things correct again and again, the brain stays the same. Mistakes grow the brain!
My lessons also teach reasoning. Giving a reason for an answer is more powerful at times than the answer itself.
Lessons are pacy and move quickly through a starter usually based around reasoning, then moving into a main activity relating to something that is needed to be worked on then a plenary checking that what has been learned has been consolidated.
In terms of my experience, I started my learning with a degree in psychology and neuroscience where I learnt about child development which gave me a good foundation. Then I moved onto become a teaching assistant working with small groups of children in interventions and 1:1 groups looking at maths. Then I did a PGCE and worked as a primary school teacher with whole class teaching and planning working with different groups of children, before moving into tutoring where I have worked with children from disadvantaged backgrounds and children who have been out of school due to illness.
I look forward to working with you!
