Hi my name is Enda Joyce, I’m 30 years old, from Donegal Ireland and work independently as a Music & English teacher respectively.
I began learning the piano and guitar from an early age, after secondary school I decided to study Music as a profession in Dublin, from there I received a scholarships to conservatory liceu in Barcelona and Musikene in the basque country, most recently I spent two years in the Netherlands completing a Masters in Music Degree at Codarts University for the arts in Rotterdam. I've performed at several jazz festivals including; sligo jazz festival, valencia jazz festival and last summer in the North Sea Jazz festival.
I now actively work as a pianist and music copyist for various bands and ensembles both at home and abroad. I have over 10 years experience teaching all ages and levels across a variety of musical styles and instruments. I’ve also experience teaching in ensemble and band contexts.
I specialize primarily in Jazz Piano and funk composition.
I have published my MA research thesis in the Netherlands and it can be sourced via the Codarts, University ex-alumni portal.
Groove Foundation, Communication & Interplay: Advancing Unity and Dialogue across groove and funk based compositions with the Rhythm Section.
In my free time aside from making music I enjoy the outdoors and dedicating time to running, hiking and climbing.
As I've mentioned I have over 10 years experience teaching both as a music teacher and as an English teacher.
I am qualified with an MA in music and certified as an English Language Teacher (Celta).
In terms of the instruments I currently teach these include: Piano, Guitar and Drums.
Beginner - Advanced.
Piano, I have experience teaching all ages, levels and styles; Jazz, Classical, Pop, Soul & Funk.
I am familiar with and have taught the Irish RIAM syllabus for piano as well as helped prepare students for entrance exams to institutions and conservatories at 3rd level. I've taught students how to play simple pop and blues tunes, how to accompany soloists and singers in jazz contexts, understand harmony, improve their reading, composition and rhythm capabilities as well as develop their own abilities to create their own songs and grooves.
Beginner - Intermediate
Guitar, I have experience helping students learn to read music, accompany themselves singing, developing a blues and jazz vocabulary and learning classic rock and pop tunes.
Beginner -
Drums, I've experience teaching beginners how to read music, improve time and groove feel and play in a group context.
Beginner- Advanced.
English, I've many years of experience preparing students for First Certificate, IELTS and TOEFL,
I've again taught students from all ages and backgrounds A1-C2, I've worked extensively as an English teacher at home and abroad, for individuals, groups and in-company classes.
My approach varies and depends on each individual student, depending on his or her ability, goals and preference to learning.
With young students 4-9 I generally work on developing a strong foundation in the instrument that they are learning. This includes being able to play basic chords, read music rhythm notation as well as play and understand diatonic scales. I find its very important with young learners that the process is enjoyable and pressure free.
For online music classes I provide a direct-line in from my piano/guitar, a mic for speaking and and two individual cameras views for both my face and hands ensuring the best possible quality and experience. It's important that students have a good internet connection and a phone or tablet set at an angle that I can see both the student and the instrument.
