My sessions are geared towards supporting learners to achieve their full potential in the examination process. I ensure that session are based around discussion rather than simple instruction as I strive to support learners to enhance their critical thinking skills, which is crucial within the social science based subjects. I have been a lecturer for 15 years and have tutored alongside this for around 5 years. My main subjects are Sociology, Criminology and Health and Social Care, however I have extensive knowledge around Social science Research Methods and am due to complete a PhD in October 2023. I am a senior examiner for GCSE and A Level sociology and the knowledge gained from undertaking these roles greatly supports my tutoring as it means I am familiar with exactly what is required across a range of examination papers. I have a thorough understanding of the way in which learners will be assessed and can help with exam coaching. I have developed strategies based on each question structure that previous learners have found to be extremely useful and have enabled them to gain high grades. My experience lies within the following aspects: crime and deviance, world sociology, families and households, education, youth culture, religion, acquiring culture and finally, the sociology of health. This tends to cover the majority of options available across a range of boards. I am less familiar with sociology of media and therefore would not be able to support learners with this aspect.
