Hi, I am a maths teacher with 11 years of experience teaching in the UK (KS3 maths, GCSE maths, and AS Level Core Maths. I have worked as a head of department, and as an advisor to support multiple other schools to improve provision within their maths departments. I have recently moved to Spain for a year with my husband, but I am going to miss the interactions with my students so much. I really want to continue working with young people and helping them with their maths... so here I am!
I really believe in adapting lessons to suit the individual(s) in front of me, so I tend to work together with my students to find a format that suits them best. Having said that, I often use mini whiteboards as an informal way of assessing my students' understanding, so I avoid making my teaching too easy or too difficult. I also build positive relationships with those I teach, so they can feel comfortable in telling me when I am explaining something in a good way for them, or when they might need to me take a step back and explain things in a slightly different way to help them to fully understand.
I love maths, and helping people - over my years as a teacher I have helped a lot of students to achieve higher than their expectations, and even to like maths a little more than they might want to admit! My main aims through tutoring are to help my students to become more confident and competent in my subject, and also to help them to be able to enjoy it much more.
