I became bilingual in English and French after living between the two countries for 22 years, I moved over when I was 16 and moved back to the UK two years ago. My preferred use of learning a language is through a method called immersion. However, seeing as that is not possible by teaching in this way, I would use a combination of methods. I would teach how the words are pronounced phonetically as well as how they are written. I would go through the verbs used starting off with the day to day ones, including all of their conjugations. I would then move onto the verbs used less frequently. I would advise the student to label various appliances and objects throughout the place of residence. Learning often becomes more successful when there is an aspect of fun. I would therefore use memory games as a method of improving and reinforcing the students' vocabulary. I would also advise them to search for language exchange clubs within their region as practising the language verbally would help them to learn the language, improve their pronunciation, and give them the closest form of immersion, the best way to learn a foreign language. I would base the structure of my lessons on text books and send them activities from the text books for them to practice in the spare time, a form of homework. I would correct the exercises, explaining any errors made.
