My main aim is to ensure the students are engaged and enjoying the session. I want to keep the sessions fun and interactive to allow them to feel comfortable answering questions and asking for help. Firstly, I’d get to know the student with some friendly questions about their hobbies and interests and what they do and don't enjoy within school. The questions will then focus on the particular subject of the session to find out what knowledge they already know and where there needs to be more focused learning to improve that particular area. I’d start with questions about the topic of that session and then repeat them either at the end of that session or when the sessions for that particular topic had finished. To maintain constant application to exams, I’d start the first part with integrated questions within the content and the second part would consist of more exam style questions. I believe incorporating games and activities to help learn vocab, equations and “common question answers” help with memory. Prior to the session, I’d revise content and practice answering exam questions whilst referring to exam-board answers so I have the full ability to share and explain answers to the student. To measure progress, I will keep track of which questions were answered incorrectly and monitor common mistakes which can be easily rectified to ensure success! I will always take note of any problems the student encounters in other areas that can be focused on in future sessions. :)
