I aim for all my sessions to be a comfortable and friendly environment where all my students can answer and ask questions without feeling embarrassed.
In the first lesson, I’ll always start off by getting to know the student, how they feel about the subject and also their interests outside of the school environment. The first lesson is a chance for me to learn where the student is at in the subject and how I can go about helping them to progress further, this normally involves having a look at lots of different questions to see where the student struggles and where they do well.
Each following lesson has a similar structure, starting with a recap of the last lesson, moving on to something new (either revision from school or new content) and finishing with some practice questions. I am also student-led and like to understand where the student feels they struggle and what they are interested in looking at in each lesson.
