For me, the most important thing is that the students enjoy learning as it is very difficult to progress in a subject that you have no interest in. Not only can this be discouraging but it can limit the potential of a student thus, I find it important to make my students comfortable enough to lead the conversation and teach them in a way that isn't monotonous.
In particular I think having productive discussions over the topics is important as well as using mini games or the like to revise certain aspects of the course. It is also necessary to practice exam-style questions together and walk students through model answers.
The lessons will be tailored to the student's needs in terms of what they are struggling with most or need to improve on.
As a current student at university, I am familiar with the education system and the best methods to work and revise productively. The degree I recently completed in history involved a lot of analysing texts and writing in-depth essays which means that I have spent much time working on my writing style and the best way to gain information from a source. Both are skills that are particularly useful when teaching students English and History.
