Hello. I am an experienced primary school teacher, who has also been Curriculum Lead, so I have a strong understanding of the primary curriculum. I trained to be a teacher at Plymouth University and completed a Bachelor of Education Primary Degree, specialising in science, with first class honours.

Often concepts (such as those of grammar and Maths) can be taught in a complicated way, however I try to break these concepts down, relating them to real life and teaching them in a range of ways which make sense to you. My aim is to develop your confidence, curiosity and understanding of primary subjects with sessions tailored to meet your needs.

I have planned, led and assessed pupils within a range of interventions (such as reading comprehension, spellings, times tables, arithmetic, and reasoning and problem solving); have independently and collaboratively designed and taught primary curricula and have taken part in a range of CPD and moderation meetings, so I understand how to help you with specific areas of learning. I have also taught pupils with SEMH, SEND, EAL and with entirely personalised curricula (such as sessions focused around developing skills and knowledge to transition back into mainstream schooling); my aim is to remove barriers to learning.

At first in our sessions, we would discuss the subject areas that you would like to focus on (and any upcoming assessments or targets). I would then tailor sessions that aim to help you to achieve mastery (a good understanding of concepts, so that you are not just learning by rote) and that are planned well - you would know the sessions ahead of time and they would be paced well, so that you make the most of each session. Sessions would be adapted throughout - you may need more or less time on some concepts, or may want to focus on other concepts.

I aim to build your confidence and love for learning, so all sessions would be paced to suit you without the pressures of a classroom setting. I look forward to the potential opportunity of working with you.
