Having earned a first in my Bachelor's degree in Japanese Language and Culture, and having lived in Japan for a year, I have developed both linguistic expertise and a deep understanding of the Japanese culture. My academic background, coupled with my time in the country, allows me to create a well-rounded learning environment for my students, helping them not only to master the language but also to appreciate its application in real life nuanced situations.

Since graduating, I have furthered my proficiency of the language in a business setting, joining the London branch of FujiTV, one of the largest television broadcasters in Japan. In my role as project coordinator I oversaw projects which required a detailed grasp of the language at a high level. Emails, phone calls and meetings were often conducted in Japanese, and over the course of a year and a half, this position taught me a great deal that would prove invaluable for students seeking a career related to Japan.

During my time in Japan I volunteered as an English language tutor at my partner university in Kyoto. I became adept at tailoring lessons to suit individual needs, ensuring that each student was engaged and comprehending topics at their own pace. My approach to teaching emphasises interactive and engaging methods, including multimedia resources, cultural insights, and practical conversations that make learning Japanese enjoyable and effective, all conducted with a friendly, encouraging and humorous outlook.

I am comfortable with the technical skills necessary for virtual instruction, proficient in using video conferencing platforms, interactive whiteboards, and various online resources to facilitate learning. I am committed to creating a supportive and inclusive virtual classroom environment where students feel comfortable and motivated to learn.
