Every student is different, and so the most important thing for me as a tutor is that we find out what you are interested in, what really excites you and then explore how we can bring these passions through into your subject. This is true for students of all ages - in order to get the most out of studying a subject, you have to find something to enjoy in it, and so that's where I begin. Then I like to find out what kind of learner you are, and tailor my sessions to the way you best engage with studying. Depending on your level of study, each sessions will have a specific focus with learning objectives that, by the end of our time, you not only know how to tackle but can achieve independently.
I have tutored students from KS3 all the way up to Oxbridge University admissions, but can offer tutoring on comprehension, reading and sitting entrance exams such as the 11+.
I can also offer resources to help approach close reading and analysis such as unseen poetry, and GCSE texts. These materials will include can include step-by-step approaches to unseen literature, memorable mnemonics for linguistic and rhetorical techniques and suggested reading lists for those looking to branch out or improve upon their reading.
English, and reading more generally, should not be boring nor frightening, and so for those who struggle with it, I'd like to think I offer a friendly hand to overcome these obstacles. For those who love the subject, I look forward to chatting all things English with you!
