As my sessions are entirely online, I accept that each one needs to be well-rounded, informative and detailed, as well as highly interactive to make up for the loss of an in-person aid. Therefore, I have crafted a 5 “step” plan in which my lessons outline. The sections are provided as follows bellow:
1. I will pre-record a video prior to each session explaining the lesson objectives, as well as including a detailed personal demonstration of each process or technique that will be taught beforehand. This will be sent to the student and/or their parent(s) or guardian(s) to ensure they can access the lesson and extra, useful content at any time outside of session time.
2. I will conduct a 10-minute overview of the last session at the start of each new session, where the student or guardian(s) will be able to ask me any questions regarding their progress or on any processess they require extra information on. I will, in this time slot, also be able to give any feedback required based on tasks I may have set the student to complete.
3. I will then conduct the rest of the session in 45 minutes. Sessions will be completely personalised to how the student works best to maximise their artistic perfomance. This means that lessons for you/your child could be mainly based on visual demonstrations from me, guiding through live visual tasks with the student, etc. The descision to allow 45 minutes for new content is to make the session time an ideal, digestible amount for the student to fully take in information and strategies provided without overloading them with content. I will typically include valuable techniques I personally use within my works that they may not be taught in school. I will also use real-world scenarios to teach them how to create paintings that will apply to them personally if they decide to take up painting as a career. The student can stop to ask any questions at any time throughout the session, as I will happily answer them to ensure they get the artistic results they want- both personally and academically.
4. At the end of the session, I will take 5 minutes to set the student mini “homework” tasks. These tasks should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete at home and will be reviewed during the first 10 minutes of the next session as previously discussed. I will set a task which will help to build on the skill both me and you/your child have decided that they need practice on the most. I will also personalise this task completely to what the student wants in their future artwork/career. For example, I will not focus intently on subject matter/techniques that the student has disclosed is not relevant to their current artistic pathway. However, this may change, so I will stress regular importance on this subject so my “homework” tasks can remain as relevant and effective as possible.
5. In between sessions, I will keep a digital log of the student’s progress that will be fully accessible via email at any time. This is done to ensure that both me and the student are up-to-date with areas that I would like to push them further on and areas I think they are excelling particularly in.
In between sessions, I will be fully available to contact for questions, extra advice or enquiries from either the student or parents/guardians via telephone call, text or email depending on what is easier for you. This is to ensure that the student can get help on any tasks I may have set, to reschedule sessions if necessary, or to request specific content for the next session. Please be aware that if, for any reason, a lesson needs to be re-scheduled, I will need to know 24 hours in advance to be fully prepared for you/your child and anyone else I may be tutoring too, so please be mindful. Otherwise, the session will be postponed to the next scheduled session time. If you would like to request specific content that isn’t yet planned to be included on the next lesson, please be aware that if enough time isn’t given for me to aquire any necessary equipment/enough time to record the extra video then your topic may unfortunately only be able to be discussed verbally, until I can buy/find the necessary materials needed to demonstrate.
