I like to use an integrated teaching approach, providing visual aids and pneumonics for students to help with recall and remembrance of factual information. I find that interactive methods work best with students, and it’s effective to learn the knowledge, consolidate it and then explain it back as if they were teaching somebody who had never heard of the said subject. This ensures students have the best knowledge of their chosen subject and feel confident answering questions and explaining the concepts to others. As I know what it’s like to revise for long periods of time, I try to make tutoring as fun as possible for those who have short attention spans! I find PowerPoints to be an effective method of teaching, as it allows the facts to be on the screen whilst ensuring there’s no overloading of information. I am open to talking to students about what methods they find to work the best for them to ensure they are receiving the support and help they need. The dynamic of the lesson would be very interactive, hearing what students have to say in regards to what they need help with or need a better understanding of. Content of the lessons would be tailored to the students needs and what they need a further understanding of with their chosen subject. I think it’s important to do shorter sessions but more often to ensure the content gets learnt whilst also not overloading the brain with all the new information being taught!
