Hello, my name is Ellie.
I am a Newly qualified teacher with lots of teaching experience across a Primary school setting. Most recently, I have worked with different schools supply teaching & have been home educating my own children - Reception, Year 1 & Year 6 pupils. ??
Maths has been a passion of mine throughout University & in general, and is one of my most favoured and enjoyed subjects. It’s diverse and understood across cultures and languages which makes it easy to teach, and easier to understand when taught in the way that is right for your child. Some areas of maths I understand can be challenging, and it’s my job to teach these concepts in different ways to help your child become fluent in mathematics.
It’s important for every child to have the foundational blocks of concrete learning to be able to proceed and to be able to conceptualise other ideas. Understandably, due to Covid it has been difficult for children to learn & many have fallen behind, leaving a huge gap for teachers to mend.
I would begin to assess your child’s needs by setting little challenges & by questioning their understanding. I like to set maths challenges to expand their learning and to support them to think differently, and to encourage the use of different strategies to work out maths problems. I can use this to find gaps in their knowledge and can begin to lay those foundations for later learning. Mastery maths is taught in all schools across England, and is taught in incremental steps which Is how I would teach if necessary.
