I maintain an interactive approach to my lessons in order to increase focus and enjoyment. My focus includes communicative language teaching, helping learners communicate correctly in realistic situations such as thanking, suggesting and asking for directions. In addition, I can alter lessons to focus on a more structural approach to the language. This includes learning key verbs and adverbs thoroughly so that when we start to learn different present continuous to follow them verbs, it is a lot more understandable.
Relevant and interesting task based learning can also be included within each lesson, putting the students knowledge to test. Here, we can see where skills have been improved to give praise. Additionally, the inclusion of task based learning helps highlight where students may find difficulty with particular words or phrases which can then be focused upon. These tasks can include physical association, quizzes and truths or false.
The content of lesson will always include time for the student to make any suggestions themselves on what they would prefer focusing on when learning, which I can then accommodate to.
I have had previous experience working with younger students as a peer reader. In this position, I took on the role of helping and encouraging students improve their English skills through reading. Reading is a great way of improving fluency and understanding of words within a range of different sentences. Throughout this role, I helped students improve from a lower key stage 2 reading ability to a higher key stage 3 reading ability.
