When approaching revision for examinations, English can be a difficult subject to prepare for due to the examinations being solely essay based. Therefore, essay performance will have to be taken into consideration when tutoring students. The content of my lessons would include a breakdown of how to use the key terminology and evidence gathered when taking the examination and applying it with the tools used to create an excellent essay. Past papers and breaking down essays into exercises will enable the students to keep calm in exams and also have a strong understanding of how to approach the question.
Having taken English as a priority subject throughout my education, I have seen the vast difference in GCSE English to A Level English, therefore students starting out in the jump to A Level can struggle to take in the large amount of information given within lessons. Therefore, extra support in learning terminology which is new to the student would benefit greatly in the challenging A Level exams.
It would be heartwarming to have a hand in helping students to grasp the opportunity in succeeding in English and opening their eyes into the different career paths English could bring. Therefore, also giving students the opportunity to take an English based subject at University level, if students find the passion for English like I have. Having the ability to say you have succeeded in your English examinations shows a clear understanding of the student’s ability to communicate their thoughts and feelings in a concise way and therefore helping them in their future.
