I am a secondary school teacher who is passionate about Mathematics. I have taught Mathematics for the past eight (8) years. I have a Bachelors of Education with specialisation in Mathematics degree which I obtained after completing 4 years of university at a teacher training institution. I also have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) which I obtained upon arrival in the UK.
I have experience teaching Numeracy and Mathematics in two countries and as such, can guide students from a basic knowledge of the concepts involved in the understanding of Mathematics to a point where they can apply the concepts taught to problem solving questions.
I incorporate different teaching styles into my lessons. My teaching style is dependent on the learner and their learning style. I use multiple resources including past papers to give learners the chance to practise concepts that have been taught. When planning my lessons, I bear in mind the prerequisites needed in order for students to gain maximum understanding and as such, testing on prerequisite knowledge is built into my lessons so that I can garner information on what a learner knows. The learner’s knowledge of prerequisite topics will then inform how I approach the teaching and learning session. If a learner needs to be taught from scratch then I am available to do that. If a learner already understands the concept and just needs practise then I am available for that.
I also have experience in marking GCSE higher papers and so, can give guidance on what is required to gain maximum marks when completing questions.
