In our lessons, I would usually ask the student to bring an essay question or topic they are particularly struggling with for us to work through together. Given history is a very broad subject, I would choose to focus our sessions around more general essay technique and aiding the students in understanding how to structure their essays so that they will achieve the highest possible marks. This could include planning essays together, reviewing marked work or even writing some exemplar paragraphs and introductions in order for students to gain more confidence in their essay writing skills.
Similarly, politics tutoring would take a very similar style, and I would point students towards the best resources which will aid them in developing well-rounded political knowledge past the textbook.
As I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE History and A*s in both A Level History and Politics, I am able to consult resources which aided me in achieving top marks, passing these onto the students themselves, whilst also ensuring students are fully equipped to write essays of a top band standard.
Our lessons would be one-to-one online, and I am more than happy to take either a more formal or informal approach depending on the student's preference. I myself only recently finished school, therefore completely understand the high-pressured environment of exam years and would make a conscious effort to ensure our sessions are fun and relaxed if that is what the student prefers!
