I usually start my tutoring sessions with a diagnostic test so that I have a better idea of where the student't understanding of the subject is, and whether there are any problem areas that need some extra attention.
Once that is covered, I'll make sure to go over the current topics being taught in school to ensure it's all locked in, before anticipating what will be learned in future classes so that the student can go in feeling prepared and ready.
This will be supplemented with regular quizzes and tests so that we can stay on top of any gaps in knowledge.
I have some experience in tutoring students from Year 9 to A-Levels, and was consistent in my efforts to ensure their knowledge and understanding of the topics and any relevant further study.
As a woman who studied STEM at uni, I strongly feel that everyone should be able to access and enjoy maths and science regardless of their background. I bring this enthusiasm to my lessons, hoping to instil some of it into my students.
"Ellie is a brilliant communicator and is very intelligent."
"I would say she has a natural talent for being able to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand way. She is patient, engaging to converse with, and very organised. In general, I'd say she has a genuine interest in helping others, and this carries over in her teaching, where she can not only help you to understand concepts, but develop an interest in them too."
"I'd highly recommend Ellie for anyone looking for a proactive, engaging, and knowledgeable teacher."
