I was a classroom teacher for about 15 years in both America and England, but decided that I enjoyed working with children one to one more. I have taught maths, English, religion, music and IT. I sing in and direct a choir and lead the music at my church. I love all animals, but especially cats, and I have two. I am American and have lived in England for 25 years.
I tend to use work books and work sheets to help me to teach the lesson. If you're struggling with something in particular, I will provide more practice on that until you understand it and can do it more easily. If you are younger, I will use games and toys to help you to learn as well. I try to use methods appropriate to each child's learning style. I find out what you're good at and develop my lessons from there, focusing on your strengths.
Your comfort and understanding of the lesson are the most important goal of my lessons. I try always to build up your self confidence when things go right and am quick to help if something goes wrong. I always keep things positive, and can use a reward system if that would help. If you're struggling with something, I will keep trying different ways of teaching and working through it until you get it. I have experience with ADHD and ASC/ASD. I see every student as a separate person and try not to compare you to other students. Ì really enjoy tutoring.
