I'm a trained actor and graduated from a BA programme in 2019. My lessons always contain a warm up at the start and then move onto the main body of work. The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and to test the water, seeing what it is we wish to achieve together and making structured plans moving forward.
Having trained as an actor my work involves developing a physical awareness of the body and vocal autonomy in order to ground our knowledge in using the body as an instrument in achieving what we wish to, be that accent reduction, clarity in performance voice, working on text and other performance techniques.
I've worked with people who have never ventured into the world of acting or presenting and have little experience of working physically in this way but all I ask from my students is to be open and willing to play in the process of testing a more physical way of working.
Of course, my lessons take place over zoom so the sessions accommodate for this and won't involve standing for the whole session and are easily adapted for those who have difficulties with standing at all and wish to remain seated. An effective warm up can of course be achieved through a seated position.
Depending on the nature of our sessions I like to take notes and may ask for your permition to grab sound recordings of you reading practice texts. This is useful in honing in on what we need to work on and allows both of us to hear the improvements that are taking place.
If you're wanting simply for a line learning partner then I will also check in with what techniques you like to use, chatting at first about any difficulties there may be in the process of line learning and if wanted I can offer up new techniques . Beyond that these sessions are mostly lead by you and what you're needing in order to best support your process of learning lines or presenting a new performance piece.
Sessions with me aim to support and encourage you and your development, what ever the nature of the sessions may be.
