I have been teaching the English Language since my high school days. At the time, I was teaching children from some basic schools in my community. Later, when I was in my second year at the university, I started teaching high school students and then a few university students.

The journey so far has been fulfilling yet challenging. Day in day out, I learn something new in or about the profession, either during a personal research on the subject or when teaching.

I like my class to be interactive and often students have asked me if we wouldn't be writing anything. "When we start writing, you might beg me to let you stop", that's usually my response.

I prefer to allow my student to understand the topic being taught before he/she writes anything. In that case, revising becomes easy and a whole lot of things are brought to memory, thereby enabling the student to perform very well in the exercise or test or examination.

I also call my students stars, and precede each name with Star.
With my basic school stars, we usually start the class with the spelling of phonics and simple words in general. With older stars, we begin with a poem or rhyme. With junior and senior high stars, we begin with a short but interesting quiz on Lexis and Structure. And with university stars and professionals, they must read a passage with a lot of tongue-twisting words, all in a bid to get them interested in the course.
