Hello :) I'm Australian and have been living and teaching in Primary Schools in London for 11 years. Before moving here, I graduated University in Australia and taught for 2 years.
Education in schools today are continuing to change. Seeing the pressures year 5 and 6 children are under for SATs, I knew I need to do more to help children. Preparing for SATs can be a lot and overwhelming for children. It's great to do many assessments and see where the gaps are and knowing what to work on from there.
Doing assessments can also help children feel more confident building up to SATs week. Having worked through work books with many skills, lots of practise help children overcome their fears of not knowing what to answer in SATs papers, they like to reword questions and puts child under pressure.
When having taught year 6, it was important to do PSHE lessons and focus on feelings and emotions. To help them with this, we focused on meditation and yoga. Identified different zones of regulations and focusing on each element wherever needed.
Having taught these methods, I saw the end outcome for my year 6s on a weekly basis, receiving their SATs result and they couldn't be prouder of themselves and made them want to go even further feeling ready for Year 7.
