I am fluent in Italian having grown up in an Italian household. have tutored French and English as a foreign language to students aged 11-15. Every student is different so I work on your personal weaknesses and therefore I will ask you what you feel you need to practise whether that be grammar, speaking or reading comprehension etc. I prepare powerpoint presentations in advance covering grammar topics followed by exercises to assess your understanding. I encourage my students to speak up when they haven't understood something. Vocabulary should be practised daily, rather than weekly for better memory retention. I am fully aware that speaking is the one skill out of the many (writing, reading, listening, translating) that cannot be improved independently and therefore lessons focus a lot on this skill. When teaching grammar, I go over the common mistakes to prevent my students from making them. As well as my lessons, I also give my students advice on what they can do between lessons to keep up their French. This includes podcasts, current affairs, films and series, Quizlet, duolingo etc. I believe homework is very important but it is usually a quiz, exercises, a short written piece or a translation. Whatever the homework, the time it takes to complete it won't exceed 30 minutes and is usually 20 minutes since students need to prioritise their school work over extra practise. Finally, it saddens me to hear when students have languages as their least favourite subject so I aim to change this and share my love for languages hoping to inspire others.
