As someone who has struggled with working in class room environments I find the one to one approach as an effective method. Students work differently despite being assessed the same. I understand first hand how it can be difficult to understand subjects in large groups due to distractions and lack of focus. In the larger groups it is important for those involved to understand that their actions impact the learning of others, and there are consequences of being removed from the environment upon serious discipline. Therefore, establishing a trusting relationship with the students are important as well as creating engaging materials for all of the students to understand the content produced.
My nephew has been diagnosed with autism. I spend a lot of time with him going over his homework and cover topics that has been explored in school. We weekly spend some time together going over English topics such as verbs, adjectives and nouns as it is areas that he finds difficult understanding. His school has given me a book for English and Maths that is suitable for his age to go over in our free time which he has became engaged with completing. As time progresses he has became more confident in his English subject and wanting to learn one to one with myself on the subject.
