Hi there, my name is Elena, I am 27 years old and live in London. I'm originally from Ireland but moved over last year to work as a medical writer!
A little about me, I have a Bachelor's degree in animal science and a PhD in reproductive biology.
In truth, I love all aspects of biology and am constantly reading up on new developments/discoveries, clinical trials, listening to science podcasts etc.
But what I enjoy most of all is teaching it!
During my undergraduate degree, I was one of several tutors that would tutor students in the years below in the lead up to exam season.
Next, during my PhD, for 8 weeks each year (4 years total), I ran intensive practical sessions for 2nd year animal science students where I taught them the reproductive system of the cow! This involved taking complex biological processes such as endocrinology, physiology, anatomy etc, and breaking it down into easily digestible information for students.
This is the core of my lesson design. Taking challenging content and bringing it right back to the basics. This sets the foundation for solid understanding and helps us to add the layers as we progress through more advanced topics. Like peeling an onion, it's all about breaking it down into the most basic components!
I like to incorporate analogies, mind-maps, flash cards and lots of visual approaches when teaching biology. It does't need to be so complicated and that's what I want to teach you! I would love to help out and help you ace those exams or simply brush up on some knowledge!
