After being in the classroom for over 3 years, I have learnt that the best results come from student centered learning and active engagement. I have successfully helped my children to exceed their targets in English and achieved a 95% pass rate in national phonics screener scores. I want to ensure that my students enjoy their learning and are motivated by engaging lessons. I can support primary aged children in all things English including: developing reading comprehension skills, writing skills and improving grammar and punctuation accuracy. I will ensure a comprehensive coverage of the curriculum stage the child is at to ensure what is being taught is mirroring what they are also learning at school or home. I have an extensive understanding of different schemes used in schools and this could run parallel to my own tutoring sessions to enhance understanding or could be diverted from depending on how the child learns.
Sessions will be entirely based on what students want to get better at and tailored specifically for their goals and targets. We will first set out any strengths and areas for improvement the student has and set clear and achievable long term targets. In the sessions, we will use a range of different tools to help us achieve this goal including interactive quizzes and games.
Each lesson will begin with a recap of what was covered in the previous lesson to ensure retained knowledge. We will never move on from a topic/ concept until the fundamentals are embedded as to not overload. Once the knowledge has been grasped, we will build on what has been covered so that we can progress in the topic. I will review and reflect on every session and make sure that the student is being challenged while still feeling confident and secure.
My sessions will always be a supportive environment where a growth mindset and making mistakes is encouraged.
