I am a Professor of Telecommunication Network, Cyber Security and Cyber Forensics with over 20 years industry experience. I have published more than 20 articles on the same subjects in international journals of high impact.
I promote openness and allow various opinions to exist among students. I have listening, communication, collaborative, interpersonal, leadership and creatives skills.
I share my findings, best practices, and industry experience with my students for better understanding and application. I engage my students in interactive teaching and not just sitting back and be teaching. I think outside the box, adds humor to my lectures and finds creative ways to bring learning into the real world.
My teaching approach is student centered and inclusive. My lecture modules involve videos, gamification, simulations, and podcasts. These interactive elements help my classes to be much more engaging, exciting, and informative.
Furthermore, I record several 10-15 minutes of my micro sessions instead of creating lengthy recorded videos of lectures that can make students get distracted or bored. This helps in keeping the engagement level high because students are more likely to watch several short videos as compared to one very long video.
I create projects and problems base tasks and assignments that educate my students to be active participants and take notes as they go through new courses or contents of my modules. These activities ensure my students remain engaged in asynchronous classes, irrespective of their locations.
I set clear expectations and define learning objectives such as how much time should students set aside every week to spend on coursework, when are activities and assignments due for submission, where can students look for Q&A, announcements, and updates about the course, when should students expect feedback on their submitted assignments, which are the activities that are mandatory, and which ones are optional, what is the average time frame for replies to questions and email communications posted on discussion forums, etc.
I build relationships with my students by knowing and calling their names, learn something about their interests, hobbies, and aspirations, and praise them whenever they answer my questions accurately and correct those who get it wrong. This relationship strategy stimulates learning and enhances my students’ academic performance.
