I am a great believer in relaxed but guided study. Having completed humanities studies up to degree level at several institutions I have a serious arsenal of study skills I am able to impart on students to maximise their studies both in the context of tutoring sessions but also in their independent study time.
Within English tutoring I look to really drill down into the texts in a fun way that focusses on the original purpose of the book and not just as an exam text or chore. Enjoyment of literature goes a long way to exam success!
My lessons are laid back either online or in person. I tend to avoid excessive use of computers when dealing with texts; bring your highlighters! When dealing with English texts and content I encourage my students to look for and pursue links to other disciplines or ideas in order to cement the content in their minds but also make it more relevant to outside pursuits.
My personal interests and experience include extensive sports coaching within Cricket boards across the South Coast and Channel Islands. This included intensive coaching of players from 4-20 years. Furthermore, I am degree educated and have participated in various charity creative writing projects which aimed at encouraging young children into opening their imaginations with the written word.
I am also a self-professed book worm with a large collection of fiction and even more non fiction history books which I am always willing to lend out to students!
I am friendly, chilled and enthusiastic about people accessing, enjoying and succeeding in humanities!
