One of the things that scare the most people away from learning chinese is the characters and there is no other way to learn them but practice. Though it might be hard at first, as you learn your first characters, you will realize that it is not random but there is a system to it with lots of words/characters being very similar to each other to the point that I would call it fun.
Listening and speaking require the most practice but it is one of the things that you learn along the way before you realize it, in the end all comes down to giving it time and practicing. When I say time I don't mean months or years but an hour a day if not less for practice which will go a long way and you will be able to communicate in chinese in no time. if you like the idea, I am more than happy to assist you in this journey!
