I am currently an MA Commercial Music Student at Bath Spa University with over ten years experience in drumming. I have always enjoyed playing drums and I took an intense interest into music ever since my time in Sixth Form College where I gained good experience playing in performances such as Battle of the Bands and Theatre Productions with other musicians. I formed a very close bond with my amazing music teacher who appointed me as Music Prefect in which I helped out as an assistant in either group or one to one music lessons. I knew from this early point exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up and I have stuck with that vision ever since. I have a particular specialism in rock drumming as rock and metal are my favourite genres to listen to.
Examples of when I have gained experience working with children include:
- I was asked to help tutor a young student who was experiencing severe anxiety with performing and confidence in their drumming. The school's music teacher feared that they were going to drop out of drum lessons so I stepped in to discuss what music they were struggling with learning (they were studying for their TRINITY Rock & Pop Grade Eight Drum Exam at the time) and ran through the songs with them and assisted with any particularly troublesome parts. I believe they enjoyed receiving tuition from someone a similar age to them who understood modern drumming styles and could bring good energy to the room. I have heard now that many years later, this student is still pursuing drumming and has taken up the role of in house drummer at their local open mic night. I believe his success and continuation with drumming wouldn't have been possible without my insight.
