The primary objective of my lessons is to instil a fundamental grasp of the concepts at work in my student, as a good understanding is what helps the most when approaching the most difficult questions that pop up in exam settings. My teaching style varies student to student, but I find the use of analogies, often visual, helpful when explaining concepts. Once I have explained the particular topic, I go through a few example questions, often from past papers, engaging with the student as I do so. I then set a new set of questions as homework for the student to complete before our next session. Homework is then reviewed at the beginning of the next session. I always encourage questions as this is the easiest route to a comprehensive understanding. Many are often hesitant to but in and ask me to clarify on a particular idea or explain something again, but there's no need to worry; I do a degree in philosophy so I love dealing with questions! I also always make sure to praise my students when they do well, and constantly motivate them to improve; I know too well that hard work ought to be appreciated :).
