I generally do an assessment in terms of seeing where the student is at in terms of understanding the subject area and writing skills. Based on this, I use a multi method approach including facilitating the students to conceptualise, analyse, how to effectively think and write and critically review their own work. There is no one size fits all and the method and how best to progress depends on the student and this should be a dynamic tutor-student relationship.
