My approach is unique to each student, and I combine teaching with elements of coaching and self-development to help you advance in your studies. Oh and I am also quite the comedian: our sessions will be a lot of fun and, maybe, I will be able to infect you with my enthusiasm for everything!

I can help you with: study skills, academic writing, reading and discussing specific texts, research skills, personal statements, writing research projects, tailoring your piece for publication and responding to peer reviews.

I have teaching experience in the areas: Critical Studies, Cultural Studies, Contextual Studies, Research Methods, Semiotics, Communications and Media, Fashion and Design Studies, Post-colonial and Decolonial Studies, Arts and Humanities, Philosophy.

About me: I am a Senior Lecturer with 12 years of experience in university lecturing and supervision. I am a certified HE Educator, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and I hold a PhD in Communications and Media.

The quality of tutoring I received within my dissertation unit was second to none. Marilia sparked my interest for reading challenging texts which we would frequently discuss during private tutorials. She would display her encyclopaedic level of knowledge on published works, and constantly make recommendations to strengthen my case both in and outside the designated learning time. I wouldn't have been able to construct a piece of writing that achieved a 90% mark if it wasn't for her.

I had the chance to have Marilia as my tutor from 2016 to 2019, as well as my dissertation supervisor in my BA (Hons) Fashion at the University for the Creative Arts, Epsom. She is a great teacher who cares about students' personal success and knows how to motivate them. She is the teacher who sparked my curiosity about a diverse range of topics in academic research and pushed me out of my comfort zone to achieve more than I could have ever imagined. She is one of those teachers you always feel grateful to have had as part of your education. I will always be thankful for her knowledge, empathy, and enthusiasm while teaching.
