I like lessons to be interactive and so they tend to form a discussion, particularly if the student already has some knowledge of the topic. A typical lesson on part of the specification usually begins with a brief discussion about how the student is finding Government and politics at the moment - what they are looking at in class and if they are having any specific issues they want to discuss about the subject. There is then a quick discussion on news and current affairs and whether anything happening right now might be useful for the exams.

The main body of the lesson will begin with a look at the key terms and phrases the examiner expects students to know about this topic. This helps me understand what the student knows and where there are gaps. The remainder of the lesson is a discussion through the topic, with videos and other resources as necessary.

We then discuss next steps and I forward the slides ands resources to the student for them to use outside of the lesson.

Other lessons can be organised around study skills and exam preparation, including talking through and planning answers for exam questions. I do lessons on the general approach needed to exams and also kills like note taking and advice on what to look out for in the news and how to get the most from newspapers and podcasts.

I find students really benefit from the approach I take, with many having weekly lessons for a year or more. They tell me they improve quickly and end up with great grades.
