My experience of teaching is that majority of students have a phobia of failing exams before they start. So I give a a breakdown if the module, set exams to know their core strengths and weaknesses and explain the modules or topics of interest in a simplified way using different resource.

Give students room to exam themselves, ask questions, discuss and them revise in a bit to make the subject more understandable like ABC.
